Posted Tuesday, February 06, 2007 12:56:35 PM by Blog57 Team
Enter Repelle(TM) -- the biggest void in the cosmetic market has just been filled, making home and professional hair color care a whole lot cleaner! Problem: Fifty-four percent of women color their hair. Half of those do it exclusively at home, according to research cited in The Wall Street Journal. While many women have hopped on the home hair color bandwagon, 'dyeing' to be a blonde, brunette or redhead is still an ordeal. Whether you are a professional colorist or completely inexperienced, it's hard to escape staining the hairline and even harder to avoid irritating the skin. Women end up with hair dye on the edge of their face, neck and ears. Solution: Introducing new Repelle(TM) Skin Shield Wand-the ultimate hair color accessory....

BLOOMINGTON -- Illinois State University senior Mary Wolff reached a fork in her career path: law school or topless hair salon.“If I don't get into law school, I'm doing the hair salon," Wolff said of her plan to open a topless hair studio in Chicago called “A Little Off the Top."The idea was part of a semester-long project where ISU seniors prepare comprehensive business plans that include market research, advertising campaigns, promotional ideas, risk assessment, financial analysis and employee training, among a long list of topics.Wolff brainstormed the concept during a night on the town with friends. “I came up with the idea, surveyed the bar and lots of people said they'd go," she said.On Friday, Wolff and other students presented their research to a panel of Twin City professionals who selected the best business plan.Wolff tied for second, but judge Brian Mueller, a commercial loan officer for CEFCU in the Twin Cities, said her plan and others could become careers after college.“I see a lot of plans that are a lot less sophisticated than these," he said. The competition has spawned post-college success in the past. The winner of last year's ISU competition later placed third in a national contest and won $1,000 for a plan to open a Twin City restaurant featuring skewers prepared right at the table....

Marzena has launched two unique hair removal products to help ween you off your skinny jeans and into a mini this summer. The New Zealand bodycare innovator has launched the prestigious Marzena Beauty Salon Wax as well as the Sensitive Hair Remover Lotion – Hands Free, for a clean and simple way to “de-fuzz” for the warmer months. Similar to the wax used in professional salons, the new Marzena Beauty Salon Wax contains natural resin, to remove hair cleanly without the need for cloth strips. Once heated, the contoured applicator smoothes the wax onto the skin in a thin layer, coating the shortest of hairs. It dries quickly to form its own strip, which is then pulled away to remove hair from the roots. Marzena has also come up with Marzena Sensitive Hair Remover Lotion – Hands Free, for easy hair removal on the go....

In nearly four years of testing infomercial products, one of my favorites has been the Roomba, the saucer-shaped robotic vacuum cleaner that makes it so much easier to frantically get the house in order the night before the cleaning lady comes. It was an ambitious product to launch on TV, costing many times more than the $9.95 and $14.95 price points that are so popular with many of the gadgets and gizmos on the airwaves. The quirky little vacuum was a big hit, and today iRobot sells 10 different versions of the Roomba, with models that can find their way back to the recharging station, models with remote controls, and even models for pet owners with extra hair-scooping capabilities. But the company's boldest move yet came about a year ago, when it introduced the Scooba, a wet-washing robot that is to the mop what the original Roomba was to the broom....

These days celebrities seem to change their hair color as often as the seasons change. And your kids may be following in their footsteps."Ever since Britney Spears came about, I think everything went a little bit crazy," said salon owner Karla Vandenberg."You look at like Hilary Duff and Jessica Simpson and that's what the seventh graders and the eighth graders and ninth graders look up to," said Hayden Fowler, a teen who highlights her hair.Britney, Hilary, and Jessica step aside. Children as young as six are now getting their hair streaked, bleached, colored and styled. When CBS 5 asked 11-year-old Dakota Hancock why he gets his hair dyed, he responded: "Because my hair turns brown sometimes and I want to go back to my original color, which is blonde.""It looks so pretty and I want to just keep on doing it," explained 8-year-old Emily Oates as her reason."It's just something fashionable," Vandenberg said. Some parents believe it's just a passing phase, a fashion trend, another sign of the times....

Looking for fast beauty tips? Former New York Times Magazine fashion editor Rona Berg offers 1,000 in her aptly named book "Fast Beauty: 1,000 Quick Fixes" (Workman, $12.95). Here are a few tips from Berg's book: • Flat hair after 4 p.m.: Spray salt water in your hair to reactivate the products in your hair and to thicken . • Dry hair: Seek out hydrating hair treatments and hair masks containing ingredients that end in "amine," which indicates amino acid. • Bone dry hair: Apply conditioner to wet or dry hair.
