| | | Coming soon: DIY laser hair removal | | Posted Wednesday, December 13, 2006 1:02:53 PM by Blog57 Team | | It looks like its booming days for the hair-removal business, with Philips recently scoring a patent for its light-based razor technology and Palomar now snagging the all-important FDA approval needed to market its StarLux laser hair removal system for home use. It's not the first time the company's done the FDA dance, however, initially getting the go-ahead to start eradicating unwanted body hair in 1997, although the technology was strictly was limited to professional use at that time. This new home version apparently boasts the same core technology that the pros use, employing pulses of intense light emitted into the hair follicles to wipe 'em out and prevent new hair from growing. What's not so clear is when the system will actually be available to the general public, or how much it'll cost, although it will apparently be an over-the-counter deal.... | |

| | | Miss Lonelyhearts - Nov. 13 | | Posted Wednesday, November 15, 2006 11:00:26 AM by Blog57 Team | | This is in response to Too Much, the man who experiences too much pain for prolonged sex. Despite popular belief, a man is capable of having intercourse for hours. By and large, it's not bad, either, but there are problems with irritation and scratches from pubic hair. As Too Much seems to have a lover who's insatiable, I'd suggest both go for hair removal. Without the pubic hair to cause scratches, the man may find that he's able to satisfy his lady love. I've done it. It works. If "Too Much" can get his girlfriend on-board, I think they'll both be much happier. I don't know that they will have enough time in their lives to work, though! Living Example .... | |

At the South Street building that burned on March 24, three of the five shops plan on returning, said owner Nick Skourtis . Maria's Hair Fashion, Felix Pizzeria, and Botanica San Miguel will return, he said. A new clothing shop and another business will replace two shops whose owners decided they no longer needed a storefront. Skourtis said his insurance company has paid out and the reconstruction is underway. The destroyed business where the fire started, Maria's Hair Fashion, has temporarily relocated to Logan Square in Hyde Park, where it is drawing both old and new customers, said Paul Joseph , husband of owner Maria Joseph ....

He said the four South Asian Test-playing nations tabled the motion to sack the controversial Australian three months after he was at the centre of a ball-tampering row with Pakistan. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, together with South Africa, Zimbabwe and the West Indies, voted for Hair's dismissal, he said. England, Australia and New Zealand wanted him to remain. "The Asian bloc comprising India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh tabled a motion at the meeting that Hair be taken off the panel," the source said. | | | Hair continues to divide world cricket | | Posted Wednesday, November 08, 2006 11:04:07 AM by Blog57 Team | | Melbourne, Nov 6: Three days after being sacked as an international umpire, Darrell Hair continued to be a divisive factor in world cricket with the Australian Board seeking an explanation from the ICC over his removal and England offering him domestic umpiring assignments. As for Hair himself, he did not rule out taking legal action against the sport's world governing body which sacked the Australian from its elite panel after an Executive Board meeting in Mumbai on Saturday. While his removal has been hailed by the Asian bloc, there has been an outcry from Australia and England -- the two countries that supported Hair before going down 7-3 in vote. After extending their support to Hair, Cricket Australia today demanded explanation from the International Cricket Council, saying it was concerned about the "implications" arising of its decision to sack the umpire."We don't agree with ICC's decision and are concerned about the implications which could see international umpires concerned about off field consequences of calling decisions as they see them," CA Chief Executive James Sutherland said. The England and Wales Cricket Board said it was looking at appointing Hair in its panel of first-class umpires."There is no doubt about his quality as an umpire or his ability to do the job," Chris Kelly, ECB umpire and match operations manager, was quoted as saying in 'The Times'.Hair, on his part, said he was not yet prepared to make a public statement on the recent developments and did not know what his future course of action would be."I don't know what's going to happen....

| | | PCB hails Hair's sacking | | Posted Monday, November 06, 2006 3:04:38 AM by Blog57 Team | | Pakistan Cricket Board today said Australian umpire Darrell Hair's removal from the Elite Panel was a "vindication" of PCB's stance that the latter was the instigator of the Oval Test controversy and deserved to be punished. "This is a vindication of our policy. We have been saying from the start that the unfortunate incident at the Oval was a blot on cricket and was all because of Hair," PCB Chairman Nasim Ashraf told reporters here. "It was because of him that the match was forfeited and there was so much loss to cricket. "If Inzamam (Pakistani captain) can be banned for coming late to the field, then the person who was responsible for that, Hair, should also have been investigated." The ICC decided to sack Hair after the members concluded that they have "lost confidence" in him at a two-day meeting of the Executive Board here.... | |

| | | The secret life cycle of gum | | Posted Friday, November 03, 2006 11:10:01 PM by Blog57 Team | | The five ages of chewing gum, from wrapper to stain on the pavement. It costs at least 10p to clean up each piece of gum spat out on pavements and roads, and councils sick of this unsightly mosaic of trodden-in gum are desperate to find a solution. Many and various ways have been tried to encourage people to dispose of their chewing gum more thoughtfully, but often to little avail. Rare is the chewer who will carefully rewrap their masticated blob of gum and seek out a rubbish bin or, failing that, tuck it in a bag or pocket to throw away later. Instead, that spittle-ridden blob ends up on the pavement, along with germs and bacteria from the chewer's mouth. And the hinted-at development of biodegradable gum still seems a long way off. As part of a House of Lords debate this week on whether to tax chewing gum to help pay for cleaning it up, Lord Selsdon, a Conservative life peer, presented his research into the life-cycle of gum.... | |
